The Sabine County History Center, located at 235 North Texas Street in Hemphill, is dedicated to preserving Sabine County’s history. There are at least 107 historical markers and memorials in Sabine County, including the Sabine County Courthouse and Jail and a number of cemeteries, churches and houses.

Sabine County Historical Commission President, Weldon McDaniel is usually in the office from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday thru Thursday.  “People from all over the world have tracked their heritage to East Texas, and we have lots of genealogy reference material to help at the History Center,” he said.
