HANDLING TIPS
1. Keeping your lunker alive is critical.
Handle it carefully and go to a weigh station ASAP. The 2023 Replica’ Bass are scheduled to be handed out in August, 56 double digit bass were caught and released.
- Always wet your hands before handling and transferring the fish.
- Avoid holding the fish vertically by the lower lip.
- Use one hand to firmly grasp the lower jaw and the other to support the weight just behind the belly. Or, use a knotless, fine mesh, soft net or plastic weigh bag to transfer the fish.
- Try not to hold the fish out of water longer than 30 seconds.
- Transfer the fish to a well-aerated live well or cooler, out of direct sunlight.
- Go immediately to a TBLA Weigh Station
Michael Kelley of Many, Louisiana, caught this 10.46-pound bass on June 14, 2024, and weighed it in at Buckeye Landing Marina on Toledo Bend Lake. Michael will receive a fiberglass replica from The Toledo Bend Lake Association for allowing us to weigh, measure, tag, and return this fish to the Lake alive. Congratulations on your catch! Hunter Muncrief of Brookland, Texas, caught this 10.04-pound bass on June 8, 2024, and weighed it in at Cypress Bend Park during the Texas Team Trail Tournament.
